Why It Matters:
Coming back after time off can mess with our routine. We may be a little slower to react, more easily distracted, or not as mentally dialed in as we normally are. On a construction site, that can lead to accidents, near misses, or overlooked hazards.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind:
- Take a few extra minutes this morning to review your tasks and surroundings.
- Do a quick mental reset: What are the major hazards today? Where are the high danger ? What PPE do I need?
- Stretch it out – Don’t underestimate how tight or sluggish you might feel after a few days off.
- Use your checklist – Don’t rely on memory alone today. Double-check tools, equipment, and any lockout/tagout or rigging procedures.
- Watch out for your crew members. Someone else might still be shaking off the long weekend too.
